عنوان مقاله: The relationship between stressors and anxiety levels before and after surgery in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery
Objective : The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating stressors before and after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and identifying stressors predicting anxiety.
Methods: The present research is a descriptive- analytical study using the non-random convenience sampling method on patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery at the cardiac surgery intensive care unit and the critical care unit of Fatimah Zahra cardiac center in Sari. A total of 186 patients completed the pre-surgical stressors questionnaire and the Spielberger Anxiety Inventory at the time of admission. On the third day of the patients’ hospitalization in the cardiac surgery intensive care unit, the post-surgical stressors questionnaire and the Spielberger Anxiety Inventory were completed by the researcher.
Results: Pre-surgical anxiety predictors included poor nurse-patient relationship (P=0.005), concern about post-surgical pain (P=0.02), probability of disruption in previous life style (P=0.006) and probability of death due to surgery (P=0.02). Post-surgical anxiety predictors included insufficient sleep during hospitalization (P=0.01), missing family members (P=0.006), not having treatment explain to the patient by nurses (P=0.002), presence of a chest tube (P=0.0001) and pain in any part of the body (P=0.03).
Conclusion: According to results of the present study, nurses need to take care of stressors affecting anxiety in ICUs when preparing their nursing care plan and design their strategies accordingly.
